What is AutomateDM and how does it work?

AutomateDM is an Instagram DM automation platform. You set a trigger keyword (like "link"), write the DM, and AutomateDM sends it whenever someone comments that keyword on your posts, Reels, or Stories — or uses any of the other five triggers. Setup takes under 2 minutes.

Will Instagram ban my account for automating DMs?

Not for this. Accounts get restricted for fake-engagement bots, mass-follow cycles, and browser extensions that drive a logged-in session — AutomateDM is structurally incapable of those. It runs entirely on Instagram's official Graph API, the channel Meta grants to vetted Tech Providers, and every send is paced through a queue that respects Instagram's own rate limits. Comment-to-DM automation is a category Meta built on purpose.

Do I need a business or creator Instagram account?

Yes — Instagram DM automation requires a Business or Creator account due to Meta API restrictions. Switching from a personal account is free and takes about 2 minutes in your Instagram settings.

How are DMs counted against my plan?

One outbound DM is one send. The Free plan includes 200 DMs per day; Creator and Studio are unlimited. Inbound messages, gates, and public comment replies never count against the quota.

Can I collect emails and track link clicks?

Yes. The email gate asks for an email before delivering your content, verifies it, and saves it to the contact. Tracked links (Creator and above) record exactly which contact clicked, per automation.

How is the Free plan free? What's the catch?

Because free users are the funnel, not the revenue — and it stays free forever, not 14 days. You get 200 DMs every day, 1 account, unlimited automations, every trigger, and the email and phone gates. The only catch: free-plan DMs carry a small "Powered by AutomateDM" footer. Paid plans remove it and unlock unlimited sends, more accounts, team seats, and AI rewrites.

I'm on ManyChat / LinkDM today — how painful is switching?
